The test method for measuring polarization<br \/>\ncrosstalk is the subject of FOTP-193.<\/p>\n<p>In theory, if perfectly linearly polarized light is launched<br \/>\ninto a high birefringence fiber with its plane of polarization<br \/>\nexactly aligned to either of the fiber&#039;s principal axes, then the<br \/>\nlight radiated at the distal end will also be perfectly polarized.<br \/>\nIn practice, some light gradually couples to the not-launched<br \/>\npolarization, and at the distal end of the fiber a small,<br \/>\nunintended, component is present. This Standard describes a test<br \/>\nmethod for measuring this imperfection.<\/p>\n<p>The coupling between polarization states is due to both fiber<br \/>\ncharacteristics and environmental influences.
