The Wideband Data System and Standard Definition provides, in a
\ngeneral way, a definition and description of the wideband data
\nsystem's services, architecture, interfaces, and system elements.
\nDetailed technical information is contained in the rest of the
\ndocuments that comprise the wideband data standards suite. The
\ncurrent scope of these documents is described in Section 6
\n"Wideband Data Standards Suite".<\/p>\n
A wideband public safety digital radio system supports a
\nstandardized subset of data communications services. This document
\nprovides an overview of the standardized set of data communication
\nservices such that, where these data services are enabled, data
\nconnectivity operates in accordance with the following goals:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Through any compliant wideband 700 MHz radio<\/p>\n
\u2022 Across any wideband compliant 700 MHz digital radio system<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Independent of the particular equipment manufacturer<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0Adherence to the Wideband Air Interface<\/p>\n
This standard enables interoperability in a wideband radio
\nsystem using high-speed packet data over wideband data channels in
\nthe 700 MHz public safety band plan. This wideband data document
\nsuite is in response to the National Coordination Committee's (NCC)
\nrequest that TIA provide a data interoperability standard for the
\n700 MHz wideband data spectrum. The NCC provided a user needs
\ndocument extracted from the Project 34 Statement of Requirements
\n(SOR) describing needed advanced Public Safety data services.
\nProject 25 recognized the need for advanced high rate data services
\nand created Project 34 in that pursuit. This standard suite is
\nguided by those documented needs provided to TIA by the NCC. The
\ngeneral expectations, interoperability of advanced services, in the
\nwideband data system and the organization of the standards
\ndocumentation suite are also presented. The standard is to meet the
\ncommon requirements as given to TR-8.5. These requirements are
\nreferenced and highlighted in Section 3 "Wideband Data System
\nRequirements".<\/p>\n
The set of standard packet data services has been defined in
\nSection 4, "Description of Packet Data Services". The goal is to
\nreuse as much Internet Technology as possible in order to
\nfacilitate the convergence of wireline and wireless data networks.
\nThis document also presents the wideband data system terminology
\nand technical reference models for each of the three modes of
\nrequested operation. These are presented in Section 4, "System
