This Standard specifies a test method for the resistance of security glazing products to destructive-windstorm events.<\/p>\n

\nThe test conditions for judging the ability of glazing to remain essentially without openings during a typhoon, etc. with the basic wind speed of 30 m\/s or greater.<\/p>\n

\nImpact by missile(s) and subsequent cyclic static-pressure differentials simulate conditions representative of windborne debris and pressures in a destructive windstorm.<\/p>\n

\nThe selection of test conditions is based on the potential hazard to human life using the appropriate wind speed, static-pressure differential, height of fenestration assembly and level of protection.<\/p>\n

\nGlazing is tested in a standard test frame.<\/p>\n

\nThe test method determines the performance of security glazing for use in fenestration assemblies under conditions representative of events that occur in severe, destructive-windstorm environments using simulated missile impact(s) followed by the positive (or negative) cyclic load test.<\/p>\n

\nA missile-propulsion device, an air pressure system and a test chamber are used to model some conditions that can be representative of windborne debris and pressures in a windstorm environment.<\/p>\n

\nThe performance determined by this test method relates to the ability of glazing in the building envelope to remain without openings and penetrations during a windstorm.<\/p>\n

\nA tornado is deemed as a transient destructive-windstorm having a basic wind speed of over 48 m\/s.<\/p>\n

\nThis Standard does not cover a tornado because its wind power does not last long and the positive (or negative) cyclic load test cannot be applied.<\/p>\n
