CSA Preface<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This is the fourth edition of CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-23, Household and similar electrical appliances \u2014 Safety \u2014 Part 2-23: Particular requirements for appliances for skin or hair care<\/em>, which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 60335-2-23 (edition 6:2016 consolidated with Amendment 1:2019). It supersedes the previous edition, published in 2015 as CAN\/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-2-23 (adopted IEC 60335-2-23:2003+A1:2008+A2:2012). It is one in a series of Standards issued by CSA Group under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-23 throughout.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard is intended to be used in conjunction with CAN\/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-1:16, Household and similar electrical appliances \u2014 Safety \u2014 Part 1: General requirements (adopted IEC 60335-1:2010+A1:2013, with Canadian deviations).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of the Standard.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This part of IEC 60335 deals with the safety of electric appliances for the care of skin or hair of persons or animals and intended for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

NOTE 101 Examples of appliances that are within the scope of this standard are<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 curling combs;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 curling irons;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 curling rollers with separate heaters;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 facial saunas;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 hairdryers;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 hair straighteners;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 hand dryers;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 heaters for detachable curlers;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 water filled foot care appliances without massage function;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 permanent-wave appliances.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

NOTE 102 Appliances covered by this standard may incorporate steam-producing or spray-producing devices.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Appliances not intended for normal household use but that nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

NOTE 103 Examples are appliances for use in hairdressing salons.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This standard deals with the reasonably foreseeable hazards presented by appliances that are encountered by all persons. However, in general, it does not take into account<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 persons (including children) whose<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2022 physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2022 lack of experience and knowledge<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

prevents them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 children playing with the appliance.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

NOTE 104 Attention is drawn to the fact that<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 it is recognized that persons having very extensive and complex disabilities can have needs beyond the level addressed in this standard.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour and similar authorities.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

NOTE 105 This standard does not apply to<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 appliances intended exclusively for industrial purposes;<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 shavers, hair clippers and similar appliances (IEC 60335-2-8);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 blankets, pads, clothing and similar flexible heating appliances (IEC 60335-2-17);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 appliances for skin exposure to optical radiation (IEC 60335-2-27);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 sauna heating appliances (IEC 60335-2-53);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 cosmetic and beauty care appliances incorporating lasers and intense light sources (IEC 60335-2-113)<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 water filled foot massagers (IEC 60335-2-32);<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2013 appliances intended for medical purposes (IEC 60601).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
