It provides guidance to product committees.<\/p>\n<p>This part of <span class=\"std\"> <span class=\"std-ref\">IEC&nbsp;61000<\/span> <\/span> applies to electrical and electronic equipment intended for use in safety-related systems and that is<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>intended to comply with the requirements of <span class=\"std\"> <span class=\"std-ref\">IEC&nbsp;61508<\/span> <\/span> and\/or other sector-specific functional safety standards, and<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>intended to be operated in industrial locations as described in <span class=\"xref\">3.1.15<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"non-normative-note\">\n<div class=\"note-label\">\n  NOTE&nbsp;1\n <\/div>\n<p>The final safety-related system is designed by a system integrator (or equivalent)that has the responsibility to assess the adequacy of the equipment for the particular application. This process is described in <span class=\"std\">Annex&nbsp;D of <span class=\"std-ref\">IEC\/TS&nbsp;61000\u20111\u20112:2008<\/span> <\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The object of this standard is to define immunity test requirements for equipment in relation to continuous and transient, conducted and radiated disturbances, including electrostatic discharge. These requirements apply only to functions intended for use in functional safety applications. Test requirements are specified for each port considered.<\/p>\n<div class=\"non-normative-note\">\n<div class=\"note-label\">\n  NOTE&nbsp;2\n <\/div>\n<p>The immunity requirements of this standard do not, however, cover extreme cases, which can occur at any location, but with an extremely low probability of occurrence.
