Published By Publication Date Number of Pages
PFI 2013 5
]]>
FOREWORD

The Pipe Fabrication Institute publishes these guidelines for the use and convenience of designers and consulting engineering firms, for pipe fabricators and fabricator erectors generally, and for the customers of each of them, in order to furnish some intelligent and practical observations concerning the ordinary and accepted responsibilities which are incurred by the design consultant and by the pipe fabricator or pipe fabricator erector in connection with large piping jobs.

It has been the aim of those responsible for this publication to furnish guidance to eliminate or reduce misunderstandings which have arisen in the industry due to lack of impartial definition concerning the area of responsibility which the participating groups assume on these jobs.

The guidelines will be of particular interest in situations where no contractual provision is made affecting these imprecise areas.

It is possible that the guidelines might be used by contracting parties choosing to do so simply by making reference to them in the contract.

We recognize that no guides can possibly provide for every contingency, which might arise.

For this reason the work has been directed toward the normal and usual situation, which from time to time confronts the designer and the fabricator or erector.

Obviously, use of the guidelines is left to the discretion and judgment of the contracting parties, but it is our belief that an impartial and objective guidepost will find quick support in the trade, will be welcomed by designers, fabricators, and erectors and appreciated, especially, by their customers.

Published By Publication Date Number of Pages
PFI 2013 5
]]>
This bulletin provides pressure ratings, in Imperial and SI units, for each pipe size and applicable schedule, 1/8 NPS through 48 NPS.

Selection of a suitable material must consider such items as service, temperature, safety, thermal shock, corrosion allowance, exposure to fire, system life and economy, using sound engineering judgment, and is not within the scope of this bulletin.

Referencing the applicable fabrication code will provide allowable stress values, "S", for a given material and temperature, weld joint efficiency "E", and temperature coefficient "y".

TB-1 will also provide a minimum design thickness, when a design pressure is provided.

The following formula and nomenclature are in accordance with ASME B31.1, Power Piping code, 2004 edition.

The pressure ratings provided in this technical bulletin may be used for other codes that utilize the same pressure formula as shown below, however, the nomenclature may be different.

It is the user's responsibility to determine if this bulletin is applicable.

Published By Publication Date Number of Pages
PFI 2013 10
]]>
This standard provides best practices for engineers, fabricators and installers for purchasing and assembly of pipe and fitting (piping components) that are internally clad with a corrosion-resistant or other metallic cladding.

Piping components may consist of carbon or low alloy steel that has been manufactured by concentric forging of an internal liner made of stainless steel, nickel or nickel alloy or other metal in which the manufacturing process metallurgically bonds the cladding to the external piping component.

Piping components may also be manufactured by the application of weld metal overlay by arc welding or other welding process such as explosion welding.
