This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the test method of obtaining the open-hole compressive strength of unidirectional materials or woven fabric materials of carbon fibre reinforced plastics.

NOTE: For the method to obtain the compressive strength of the open-hole test specimen of carbon fibre reinforced plastics, the method to obtain the compressive strength of open-hole part by applying forces to both surfaces of test specimen in the longitudinal direction of the test specimen (shear loading system) represented by ASTM D 6484 (see Bibliography [1]) is known.

On the other hand, the method specified in this Standard is the method to obtain the compressive strength by applying the compressive force directly to the end part of test specimen (end part loading system), and it is known that a smaller-sized test specimen and a smaller-sized jig as compared with the method of ASTM D 6484 are used and the equal results are obtained.

Warning: Persons using this Standard should be familiar with normal laboratory practice.

This Standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use.

It is the responsibility of the user to establish appropriate safety and health practices.
