This Standard specifies requirements for handlamps and similar portable luminaires (hereafter referred to as "handlamps") which are held in the hand, hooked up or resting on a surface for use with electric light sources (an incandesecent lamp, a fluorescent lamp, other discharge lamps and electroluminescent devices such as an LED) on supply voltages not exceeding 250 V.
This Standard is applicable to handlamps which can be fixed to a support by means of a wing screw, clip or magnet (e.g. handlamps intended for shedding light under a vehicle and for use at a construction site.
Those intended for inspection of the interior of barrels in which tere is a risk of generation of flammable gas are not included).
Portable handlamps with grips, and luminaires used for inspection inside instruments.
NOTE 1 In Japan, the portable handlamps as shown in figure OA are popularly used.
