1. Scope
1.1 This Standard prescribes requirements for the classification and certification of carbon steel electrodes for flux- and metal-cored arc welding. Note: Inch-pound equivalents are given in brackets. In case of a dispute, the metric values shall prevail.
1.2 Both flux- and metal-cored electrodes covered by this Standard are classified according to (a) the chemical requirements of undiluted weld metal (Table 1); (b) certain usability characteristics of the electrode (Table 2); (c) the mechanical properties of the weld metal in the as-welded condition (Table 3); and (d) the positions of welding for which the electrodes are suitable (Table 5).
1.3 Any electrode certified under one classification shall not be certified under any other classification with the following exceptions: (a
