Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) System Specification Protocol Testing Overview

Introduction
Successful interoperation of CDPD equipment requires correct
implementation of the CDPD protocols. Abstract Test Suites
(ATSs) contain the specifications for tests sufficient to
indicate the likelihood of correct protocol implementations. This
Part presents an overview of protocol testing and CDPD ATS
methodology.
Basic Interconnection Tests (BITs) are used to reduce
the likelihood that rogue implementations negatively impact the
CDPD infrastructure. A more extensive test capability is provided
by conformance tests, which exercise a protocol through
both its normal and error procedures for all mandatory functions
and stated optional capabilities.
The ATSs defined in the following Parts include BIT testing and
selected error scenario testing for CDPD protocols such as DSMA and
MDLP. Testing for performance and stress is beyond the scope of
TIA/EIA-732.
The goal of the tests defined in the following Parts is to
ensure that CDPD equipment provides good and fair service to the
users of CDPD systems. However, these tests are not so restrictive
as to contain implementations by manufacturers.
Any conflict, either real or perceived, between the test suites
and the protocol definitions shall be resolved in favor of the
protocol definitions.
